About Edit the Mess

From Friendship to Full-Time Purpose

What started as a hobby between two friends has blossomed into something extraordinary.

We’re Aundrea Anderson and Laura Smith—moms, multitaskers, and Kansas City professional organizers with a shared passion for turning chaos into calm.

Between carpools, work schedules, and everyday life, we learned early on that organization isn’t about perfection—it’s about peace. What began as helping friends “get it together” soon grew into a meaningful business helping families, professionals, and small businesses across Kansas City reclaim their time and space.

Today, Edit the Mess is built on collaboration, heart, and over 20 years of combined experience creating systems that stick.

Aundrea Anderson

“My favorite part of this work is watching people exhale when they realize their space finally works for them,” Aundrea says. “It’s not just about the bins—it’s about building confidence and calm.”

Aundrea’s love for organization began long before it became a career. As a child, her teachers often asked her to help classmates manage their supplies and schoolwork—a natural leader even then. That early knack for order became a lifelong passion.

She specializes in project planning, move management, and customized systems for families navigating major life transitions. Aundrea’s empathetic but structured approach helps clients make clear decisions and find sustainable balance in their homes.

“Mistakes are part of life,” Laura says. “They’ve taught me to lead with empathy. Everyone struggles with something unseen, and that’s why I approach every project with patience and understanding.”

Laura believes that organization is less about stuff—and more about self-compassion.
Her journey has been shaped by the lessons that come from challenge and change.

Laura’s strengths lie in simplifying complex spaces and creating easy-to-maintain systems. Her background in psychology and client service helps her guide families through emotional attachments and decision fatigue with warmth and humor.

What Makes Us Different

Many people think professional organizing is just about pretty shelves and color-coded closets—but it’s much more strategic than that. We combine functional design, workflow psychology, and hands-on efficiency to make sure each system fits your real life.

We’re Not Just Here to Tidy

We focus on how spaces work—not just how they look. Whether it’s a home office, kitchen, or entire home, our goal is to create systems that make daily routines smoother.

We’re a Team

Having two organizers on every project means double the skill sets, double the creativity, and faster results. Together, we can tackle even the most overwhelming spaces—without judgment.

We Personalize Every Project

From families balancing soccer practice and meal prep to seniors downsizing after decades in the same home, every client gets a plan tailored to their needs.

We Value Function Over Fads

We’ve seen plenty of organizing “trends” come and go. True transformation happens when systems are sustainable and maintainable—not just Instagram-worthy.

“A perfectly color-coordinated closet doesn’t matter if it’s impossible to keep up with,” Aundrea explains. “We design for real life, not Pinterest.”

Our Philosophy

Organization is about more than things—it’s about life, values, and legacy.

We often help clients navigate emotional decisions about inherited items, childhood keepsakes, or belongings that no longer serve them.

“It’s common for clients to feel obligated to keep things passed down by loved ones,” Laura says. “We help them find peace in letting go—honoring the memory without being weighed down by the stuff.”

Every decision made today creates clarity for your future—and relief for the next generation.

Why We Love What We Do

There’s nothing more rewarding than watching a family walk into a space that finally feels calm. Whether it’s helping a parent clear out a playroom or preparing a home for sale, we live for the “after” moment—the sigh of relief, the smile, the freedom.

No space intimidates us, and no project is too big or too small. From the smallest pantry to the most cluttered basement, we see potential where others see chaos.

Serving the Kansas City Community

Based in the heart of Kansas City, we proudly serve families and professionals across the metro area—including Overland Park, Olathe, Lee’s Summit, Liberty, and beyond.

Our work reflects the Midwest values we live by: empathy, integrity, and a strong sense of community. When we help you organize your home, we’re helping you reclaim time for what really matters—family, rest, and connection.

Our Promise

We’ll meet you where you are—without judgment. We’ll bring systems, structure, and support that fit your lifestyle. And we’ll leave you with a space that not only looks beautiful but functions beautifully every day after we leave.

“Organization isn’t about perfection,” Laura says. “It’s about making room for life.”
